In many communities, conversations about mental health are still limited and access to supportive resources can be difficult.

Schools, families, and community leaders often want to help children and, youth navigate emotional challenges but may not always have the tools or support they need. SafeSpace Honduras was created to help expand awareness, provide accessible resources, and encourage supportive environments where children and young people can feel safe, heard, and supported.

Why It Matters

Our Founder

Elsa Suazo is the founder of SafeSpace Honduras and a doctoral student in Education Leadership and Innovation at New York University (NYU). With over 15 years of experience in the mental health field, she has dedicated her career to supporting children, youth, and families.

Originally from Honduras and now based in New York, Elsa founded SafeSpace Honduras to create spaces where children feel safe, supported, and empowered. Through education, arts, sports, and community partnerships, her work focuses on expanding access to emotional well-being for children and families.

Elsa believes that when children feel emotionally safe, they are better able to learn, grow, and reach their full potential.
